What Is Individual Therapy? What It Looks Like at Peace Point Therapy
Aug 20, 2025

Starting therapy can feel like a big step — and sometimes the unknowns make it even harder. You may wonder: What will we talk about? What will my therapist be like? Will this actually help me feel better?
At Peace Point Therapy, my goal is to make therapy a space where you can breathe, reflect, and feel supported. Here’s what individual therapy is, and what it might feel like to work together.
What Is Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is one-on-one support between you and a therapist. It’s a time set aside just for you — to talk through what’s on your mind, explore patterns in your life, and find tools for moving forward.
Some of the most common reasons people come to therapy include:
Anxiety, stress, or feeling overwhelmed
Traumatic experiences that still affect daily life
OCD and intrusive thoughts
Postpartum depression or anxiety
Relationship struggles
Major life transitions or identity shifts
Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you — because you’re not broken. It’s about creating a safe, compassionate space where you can explore what’s happening inside and find new ways of relating to yourself and others.
How I Show Up as Your Therapist
As a therapist, I show up with both warmth and evidence-based tools. My approach blends compassion, humor, and honesty with clinical methods that actually help create change.
Here’s what that means in practice:
Compassionate listening — You’ll have space to share your story without judgment.
Collaboration — Therapy isn’t me telling you what to do; it’s us working together.
Practical strategies — I integrate EMDR, CBT/ACT, ERP, and IFS to give you tools for coping, healing, and reprocessing what weighs you down.
Tailored care — Each session is unique to you. Some weeks you may need skills and strategies, other weeks you may need space to process emotions more deeply.
Clients often tell me that they feel both supported and challenged — like they have a partner who believes in their ability to grow, while also guiding them toward real change.
What Therapy With Me Might Look and Feel Like
Many clients describe therapy with me as a mix of relief and clarity. You may feel lighter after being able to share openly. You may also feel encouraged as we identify patterns and put words to things you’ve been carrying for a long time.
In sessions, you can expect:
A safe space to be fully yourself
Gentle guidance to explore difficult memories or emotions at your own pace
Tools and strategies you can use between sessions
Respect for your goals — whether that’s feeling calmer, rebuilding self-confidence, or working through trauma
Over time, therapy often feels like moving from being “stuck” to feeling more in control, understood, and hopeful.
